For some, music is everything when it comes to getting work done. For others, it’s just background noise. And for a few poor souls, it’s too distracting to have on. Not that you asked, but here’s what I think your preference says about you.
Classical Music
If you listen to classical music while you work, this probably worked for you in college and you’re sticking with it. There are also tons of studies on how classical music helps you focus and can even make you smarter, so you’re clearly doing something right.
Y2K Pop
You need a lot of help to get you through the work day, and that’s understandable. Sometimes the only thing that keeps you going is the undying optimism of the pop hits of 2009. I hope you gain energy from the Black Eyed Peas through AirPod osmosis and can finish that deck by EOD. Best of luck.
Lo-Fi
You’re super chill and maybe a little pretentious. To me, lo-fi is glorified white noise, which isn’t a bad thing, especially if that’s what helps you focus. But here’s a question I have for you: Why do so many people listen to lo-fi on YouTube? I’ve never understood that.
Podcasts
It seems like wider society thinks that if you listen to podcasts you’re probably some kind of academic or uber intellectual. But there’s many different genres of podcasts and some of the most popular are, in fact, not intellectual at all. Not that it matters. Listen to whatever you want! Reality TV recaps, celebrity interviews, cheesy true crime. Ear candy, if you will. Whatever gets you through the day.
Indie Rock
You’re probably amazing at your job and the most productive person in your office. And I am not just saying that because this is what I listen to while I work.
