I previously outlined some basic, or perhaps traditional, essentials for a work-from-anywhere day. But the team at fluxo gathered some more unorthodox suggestions this time around.
What’s a work-from-here day you might ask? It’s fluxo’s version of a work-from-anywhere day, or a remote work day where you actually manage to leave your apartment and work from a third place in your New York City neighborhood.
Multiple Beverages
What makes your productivity peak? At least two beverages, one caffeinated and one not—balance is key here. Water and coffee are the obvious picks, but we recommend mixing it up from time to time: orange juice and tea, kombucha and a smoothie, matcha and beer, whatever strikes your fancy. If the tables of the establishment you’re in aren’t huge, make it work. Being spatially aware is a virtue (New Yorkers know this all too well).
A Pencil (and paper)
We at fluxo are strong believers in writing out ideas, notes, qualms, etc. We understand that a lot of people prefer their notes to be digital, but why not take a whack at the written word—writing out your thoughts by hand has been known to help with creativity. And then you have the materials for doodling! Also, we’re in a handwriting epidemic because of laptops, so maybe brush up on what yours looks like.
A Friend (or two or three)
Now, not everyone can be productive with their friends around them, we’re aware of that, but if you can manage to focus with your other remote pals nearby, we recommend it. It makes your Monday just a little brighter, a little chattier, a little more enjoyable. Same goes for your coworkers if you’re all remote on the same day but live in the same city/neighborhood. Well, the coworkers you like and would choose to spend a little extra time with.
A Sweet Treat (or two or three)
Similar to the multiple beverages, it’s scientifically proven that a sweet treat (or two or three) can increase productivity (don’t fact check us on that). But when has a little snack ever brought down the quality of your work? Also, sometimes it’s the little treats that make your day, especially if you’re stressed out by a coworker, a project, a deck, etc.
A croissant = brain fuel. That’s science.
The fluxo App
Ever wanted to work from somewhere other than your apartment but the coffee shops near you are always full, or they have laptop limitations? Ever been inclined to work from your favorite bar, brewery, or restaurant, but you’re not sure if they’d allow laptops, have wifi, power outlets, or even coffee?
fluxo takes away the hesitancy, the unknowing, the uncertainty. On the app, you can search for local institutions in your NYC neighborhood that are open to remote workers during the day and book a spot for yourself (a fluxo pass, if you will). And all fluxo locations have the basic WFH essentials—wifi, outlets, coffee, filtered water, atmosphere—so there're no unwelcome surprises that would make your work day harder. That way, you know you can show up to the brewery around the corner, show your fluxo pass, and work comfortably for the day with secure wifi, plenty of coffee, and no chance of your laptop dying on you. Unless you forgot your charger, of course. But who knows! Maybe the person fluxo-ing next to you will let you borrow theirs…
You’ll have fluxo at your fingertips in February. Stay tuned…
